Robert Ludlow

n one of those “What a small world!” moments, in finding the obituary for Robert Leonard Ludlow, the young firefighter who died in the fire at Dufferin & Eglinton in 1960, I discovered that he lived at 18 Lamella Ave which is literally a 1 minute walk from where I have worked for over 20 years. I have walked past this home hundreds of times.

Robert Ludlow was only 22 years and had just been married for a week when he was killed fighting the fire in the newly renovated Loblaws. His body wasn’t found for 24 hours and his new bride held out hope that he would be found alive.
