Resolute Cemetery is a small burial ground located near Resolute Bay on Cornwallis Island in Nunavut. There isn’t much known about this cemetery, but we are actively doing research.
Resolute Bay (Inuktitut: Qausuittuq, meaning “place with no dawn”) is one of Canada’s northernmost communities. Its history reflects a layered past that includes ancient Indigenous occupancy, periods of 19th-century European Arctic exploration, and a controversial Cold War–era relocation program. This program, initiated by the Canadian government, sought to reinforce sovereignty in the High Arctic by moving Inuit families to the region.
